Thinking that the golden age is in the past only says you believe we have no future. Don't accept a gutted criticism or the impotency forced upon you by power structures that are steeped in reactionary and fascist thought. Read history, support the free press, support critical artists, become educated past the sound bytes and twitter feeds. Don't look to power for empowerment and be skeptical of any populist movement who bases their beliefs in fear, intolerance, and hatred. America is ours through our votes and voices, don't waste them, sell them, or concede them.
lyrics
America (Lyrics by David Diers)
Open your minds bible belt, open you hearts forget all of this hate
Surely a loving God will love us all, whether we are gay or straight
America don’t let me down
Come on kids let’s clean up
America don’t drag us down
Come on kids there is something left
Turn off the greed corporate kings, how many zeros do you need?
Money doesn’t travel well in the after life, and your estates won’t matter if there is nothing left to breathe
America. Don’t write me off
Come on friends we are growing soft
America don’t drag us down
Come on kids there’s something going on
Bridge
Things won’t remain the way they are
The can’t return to yesterday
The only thing we can be certain of
Is things will always and ever change
Stop the wars, you fine-suited elects, can’t you tell blood from oil?
And if freedom could be bought and sold, you’d drain every last drop from our soil.
America don’t sell me out
Come on freaks you know what I’m about
America don’t drag us down
Come on kids there is something left
Bridge Outro
Things won’t remain the way they are
The can’t return to yesterday
The only thing we can be certain of
Is things will always and ever change
America, your golden age is gone
You have the power and the things you lusted on
You can still be somebody to someone
Oh, America find the strength to carry on.
